Best Overall Bvlgari Cologne - Bvlgari Man In Black Essence

4.8/5

Why we chose it

Bvlgari Man In Black Essence is inspired by the “the deeply wild, arid nature of Africa”, and is a beautiful Oriental Spicy fragrance featuring top notes of spices and rum; middle notes of flowers and musk, and a base of oriental aromas, resin, and woody aromatics.

This fragrance first hit the market in 2017, in an eye-catching bottle designed by Nigerian artist Laolu Senbanjo, featuring stunning African inspired patterns.

You’d be forgiven for thinking this fragrance would smell as wild as its description, but you may be surprised to hear it’s a lot softer, with the warm notes of the tonka and rum really shining through.

The overall effect is a deep and rich fragrance which settles into a powdery and musky scent as it dries on your skin.

The warmth of Bvlgari Man In Black Essence makes it an ideal choice for the colder months, combined with a chunky knit sweater.

Popular Cologne - Bvlgari Man

Our Take

Bvlgari Man, a woody, oriental fragrance featuring bergamot, white pear, cashmere wood, vetiver, tonka bean and musk.

Bvlgari Man is a wonderfully refined and contemporary scent, ideal for the modern man.

We find this cologne incredibly sexy and masculine, guaranteed to have your loved one cuddling up to you to get a closer sniff.

This scent is a real crowd-pleaser, and despite its fruity and floral combination, does not come across overly sweet, making for a great office scent.

Bvlgari Man is a great performer and will last you all day.  We think it’s incredibly addictive, and we just can’t keep going back for more.

Wear this in the summer with a crisp white cotton shirt for the ultimate summer fragrance.

Best Value for Money - Bvlgari Man In Black

Our Take

Bvlgari Man In Black was inspired by the Roman god of fire, Vulcan.

Bvlgari describes this fragrance as a “neo-Oriental Eau de Parfum”, featuring notes of spicy amber-rum, tuberose, iris, leather, benzoin, tonka bean, guaiac wood and resin.

Many fans of Man In Black compare this to a more upscale version of Paco Rabanne’s Spice Bomb, so if you’re looking for a more unique and less well-known scent, Man In Black could be an excellent choice for you.

The bottle itself, with its rose gold accents against a deep black base, is a nod to its famous line of men’s watches.  One thing for sure is that this bottle will look great on your vanity shelf.

The longevity of Man In Black is pretty good at around 6 hours, so it offers excellent value for money.

We think Man In Black goes well with a suit-wearing gentleman, on the more formal of occasions.

Bvlgari Man Wood Essence

Our Take

Bvlgari Man Wood Essence was created to symbolise the juxtaposition of the modern man between the city and nature.

The bottle itself was inspired by Bosco Verticale, a famous pair of residential towers in Milan which combine modern architecture with luscious greenery, reflecting the fragrance itself.

Wood essence is a woody and earthy cologne, blending herbal notes of coriander with Italian citrus vibes to create an aroma suited towards the natural, sophisticated gentleman.

Man Wood Essence, is, in our opinion, a very likeable scent which makes it perfect for everyday use.

Bvlgari Pour Homme Soir

Our Take

Bvlgari Pour Homme Soir is the epitome of freshness.  A deep and powerful woody amber cologne aimed at the magnetic gentleman.

The fragrance is relatively unique featuring top notes of Darjeeling tea, which delivers a fresh and classy aroma.  As the cologne dries, you get a pleasant and soft musky scent which is perfect for the colder months.

This cologne is wonderfully inoffensive and likeable, perfect for everyday use.

As the name suggests, Pour Homme Soir is an exclusive evening fragrance, perfect for date nights or casual dinners at home.

Main Accords

  • Woody

Bvlgari Black

Our Take

Next up is a fragrance that Bvlgari market as “supreme exponent of the metropolitan concept”, giving it a somewhat edgy and contemporary feel.

The cologne contains notes of bergamot, smoky tea, jasmine, cedarwood, sandalwood, leather, amber, musk, and vanilla.

Now Bvlgari market this as a unisex fragrance, and while we agree it can be worn by the risk-taking woman, there is a burnt rubber aroma to this fragrance that gives it a definite, masculine edge.

Some fans of Bvlgari Black complain about its longevity, so you may want to be a bit more generous than usual with the application.

Wear this paired with a leather jacket to your local bar.

Bvlgari Aqva Marine

Our Take

We feel that Bvlgari really shine when it comes to aquatics.

From the first spray, you are confronted with a burst of citrus grapefruit and neroli which lasts through the life of the fragrance, which provides a sour but sweet kick.

In the dry down, the smell of the ocean really comes through, due to the seaweed and rosemary notes.

Salty and fresh, this is one of our top summer fragrances for 2021.

The smell of this cologne reminds us of being under the hot summer sun, walking along the beach, listening to the crashing waves of the ocean.

Bvlgari BLV

Our Take

BLV is a fresh, woody and spicy cologne. What’s unique about BLV is its surprising combination of clean yet warm notes, featuring cardamom and sandalwood in the top and ginkgo leaves, grey teak and tobacco flower in the base.

The spicy opening kick captures your attention which mellows out in the base, creating a unique tobacco and ginger-based scent.

Performance and projection are outstanding, yet not overpowering.  A truly pleasant and versatile cologne means BLV is a perfect choice for your new work-scent.

The crisp and clean aftershave could soon become your signature scent.

Bvlgari Man Extreme

Our Take

Bvlgari Man Extreme is inspired by the strength of Rome, and it is undoubtedly one of the more powerful fragrances in our list, while not being too overpowering.

Bvlgari Man Extreme features notes of citrusy grapefruit, bergamot, Haitian vetiver, and woody accents.

Many liken Man Extreme to a ‘fresh out of the shower’ scent and with 7/8 hours of longevity, is a solid performer.

Man Extreme is undeniably masculine, presenting a mix of citrus and woodsy aromas which makes it both sensual and sexy.

Although this is more suited to spring and summer, you can absolutely wear this year-round.

Atlantiqve is a delicious aquatic cologne, which combines the citrusy notes of bergamot and lemon with the salty notes of the Atlantic ocean.

Expert Tips

Bvlgari is famous for being a high-end, luxury brand, most commonly known for its fine watches, jewelry, fragrances, accessories and leather goods, including handbags and wallets.

Bvlgari was initially founded in Rome in 1884 by Sotirio Bulgari, a gifted young silversmith from Greece.  The utmost time and care Sotirio put into his work quickly earned Bvlgari a name synonymous with luxury and quality, particularly for its stunning jewelry.

The jewelry was most commonly associated with the addition of colorful precious stones, and the house of Bvlgari earned a reputation across Italy for its detailed and intricate pieces.

It wasn’t long before their reputation traveled overseas, and today, Bvlgari is one of the most famous fashion houses in the world.

After its auspicious beginning in fine jewelry, Bvlgari ventured into the world of fine fragrances.

Under the guidance of the CEO, Francesco Trapani, the nephew of Sotirio Bulgari, the company launched their first-ever fragrance, Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert, in 1992.

Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert was a beautiful fresh concoction of green tea and citrus, creating a delectable, delicate cologne.  Many saw this as an exciting new chapter in the history of the house of Bvlgari.

Today, Bvlgari is an incredibly popular choice in the fragrance department. You will often find many of their perfumes or colognes at the top of the lists of fragrance fans across the world.
